Crypto Adoption Report: 2.7 Million Users Can’t Be Wrong

By Emily Zhang · Aug 7, 2026

Golden Bitcoin coins arranged on glitter surface

We surveyed 41,000 CoinHarbor users across 60 countries for our 2026 adoption report. The portrait that emerges is older, calmer and more practical than the stereotype.

Who is buying?

The median holder is 38, employed full-time, and allocates under 8% of savings to crypto. Women now make up 34% of new accounts, up from 21% in 2022. The fastest-growing cohort is over-55s buying Bitcoin as “digital gold” for retirement portfolios.

What do they hold?

Bitcoin anchors 71% of portfolios, Ethereum sits in 58%, and stablecoins appear in nearly half — mostly as dry powder, not yield-chasing. The average user holds 3.2 assets, and rebalancing beats trading: set-and-forget accounts outperformed active traders by 11 points last year.

Why do they stay?

The top three reasons: “I understand what I own” (education), “I can reach a human” (support), and “my money is still there in a crash” (custody). Trust, in other words — the entire thesis this platform was built on.
